Chief executive, Clarks
Melissa Potter couldn’t have asked for a better start to her first year as chief executive of Clarks than reporting record first-half profits.
Potter, who was previously managing director of the footwear giant, took the helm from Peter Bolliger when he retired in May this year. Clarks saw operating profits jump 53% to £48.6m, while pre-tax profit soared 111.2% to £45.2m in the six months to July 31, largely driven by its US business.
Sell-throughs on boots have been strong this autumn, but like others, Clarks has struggled to keep itself and its stockists flush with demand.
