86 Gemma Metheringham

Joint managing director, Karen Millen

This year saw joint managing director Gemma Metheringham and her counterpart Steve Price go it alone at Karen Millen as the premium womenswear retailer was split off from owner Aurora Fashions in March. It’s Metheringham’s innate understanding of product that means she, rather than the also excellent Price, makes it into the Power List. Since the split, Karen Millen has said it aims to double sales to £500m in the next five years and that this growth is likely to come from expansion into international markets. It is expected that the retailer will report a 5% increase in profits and a 15% rise in turnover when it files its results later this year.

Most likely to… Be found on the atelier floor. Metheringham is passionate about product and still takes an active role in design and production.
