Creative director, New Look
It was a close call, but New Look can breathe again after its talented design director Barbara Horspool was persuaded to stay at the business, in the elevated role of creative director. Even though it’s been a tough year for Horspool at the beleaguered retailer, it’s not even worth trying to imagine what might have happened to the chain if she had packed her bags. Featuring on Drapers’ best dressed list last year, Horspool has also upped the publicity stakes for New Look by sitting on a style panel for six-week show New Look Style the Nation on T4, charting the retailer’s search for a stylist. The series was one of the first to combine advertiser funding and product placement on UK TV, featuring New Look’s clothes.
