Mary Katrantzou is one of this year’s most talked about young designers. She was lauded by critics in 2010 for her clever trompe l’oeil interiors-themed digital prints and architectural shapes – it’s no surprise that she was an architecture student before moving into textile design. This year, those interior-style prints have translated to the high street and a notable collaboration with heavyweight Topshop for spring 11. By her own admission, Katrantzou, who shows at London Fashion Week, is now being noticed by buyers as well as the press – her accounts are a veritable who’s who of luxury retailers including Joseph, Browns and Harvey Nichols in the UK, plus Colette in Paris and 10 Corso Como in Milan. But the plaudits keep coming – she won an Emerging Talent award at this year’s British Fashion Awards.
