Top 100: 14. Stella McCartney

It’s been a golden year for Stella McCartney, who came out top in this year’s biggest fashion show, the London 2012 Olympic Games, after being honoured with the prestigious task of dressing the UK’s 900 Olympic and Paralympic athletes. There was also the raucous return to London Fashion Week in February - who else could get Rihanna front row and have Alexa Chung sawn in half on stage by a magician? A set of stellar collections included the red carpet-winning optical illusion dresses and an autumn 12 offering that kick-started the season’s baroque trend. Not to mention the launch of an affordable lingerie line and winning Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. With sales rising 19% in 2011 and profits up 0.5% to £2.9m, she’s doing a lot right.
