Top 100: 30. Michael Gutman

Managing director, UK and Europe, Westfield

With Westfield bucking the economic trend and with its Stratford centre’s strategic position next to the Olympic Park, it’s no wonder 2012 is the year Michael Gutman joins the Power List. Both Westfield London and Westfield Stratford have defied the market with their high tenancy rates and strong footfall. Not every retailer has succeeded in the two London centres - and of course Westfield this year finally gave up on its Bradford project - but the robust principle of seeing shopping as one part of the overall experience is paying off. Stratford alone has taken almost £900m in its first year. With the opening of a scheme in Croydon looking hopeful, the future looks bright for Gutman and his team.
