You’d think it would be difficult to top last year’s impressive Shoe Galleries (which ‘inspired’ several other retailers) but when you have a calm, sartorial Frenchman at the helm, anything is possible. This year, Sebastian Manes replicated the shoe success in men’s footwear, opening a 15,000 sq ft space housing an impressive 250 brands, 3,200 styles and more than 72,000 pairs of shoes. He also launched the spectacular Womenswear Designer Galleries, where the department store’s biggest names - think Céline, McQueen and Chanel - were rehoused in an excellent store redesign, making it a true one-off destination.
