Top 100: 50. Bernd Hake

UK managing director, Hugo Boss

A perennial favourite in the Drapers’ weekly Indicator rankings combined with an aggressive retail expansion strategy, Hugo Boss is one of the healthiest businesses in the UK, carefully balancing wholesale and retail ambitions - and generally pleasing both sides. At the helm is the astute, yet warm, Bernd Hake. Despite extensive growth across its retail business, Hake insists this is not to the detriment of its indie stockists, who remain key to Hugo Boss’s growth. Hake has been working closely with indies on plans for obtaining strong sell-throughs, and maintains that wholesale’s contribution to total turnover has not waned. Group sales have continued to rise, increasing 5% to €646m (£521m) for the three months to September 30.

Most likely to… Give a great book recommendation.
