Top 100: 55. Raf Simons

Creative director, Christian Dior; founder, Raf Simons

Raf Simons is for many the most influential fashion designer in the world today. A bold claim that’s hard to dispute when 2012 featured a universally praised final collection for Jil Sander; his arrival as creative director of arguably the most historic of fashion houses at Christian Dior; a stunning debut couture collection for said house; and outshining Ms Sander and the much-hyped Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent in a single season while still producing his eponymous menswear collections. That Simons has reprised his superb collaboration with Fred Perry for spring 13 should indicate just how comprehensive a designer he is at all levels of the market.

What he says… “I can’t see myself growing old in fashion. It’s hectic and it’s fast, and I don’t think you can cope with it forever.”
