Top 100: 79. Mark Newton-Jones

Former chief executive, Shop Direct Group

In September Mark Newton-Jones handed the reins over to Alex Baldock at Shop Direct Group, staying on at the company in a solely advisory capacity to the new group chief executive and the board. His resignation brings to an end a seven-year tenure in the role, in which he saw the group’s annual sales grow to £1.7bn, with five million active customers to date. In the 12 months to June 30, Newton-Jones oversaw EBITDA growth of 66% to £109m. His next move is anyone’s guess, but insiders say that unsexy non-fashion retailers and supermarkets need not apply - fashion is where he’ll stay.
