Her best career advice: “Don’t listen to the noise – simple, but effective.”
Rebecca Tinker has quickly honed her skills during her time at iconic luxury department store Harvey Nichols, moving from an buyers admin role when she started in 2012 to buyer within its high-profile international womenswear department. She has a “phenomenal” eye for an emerging trend or designer, says head of womenswear buying Hazel Catterall, who calls her “fantastically talented”.
As well as working with the world’s leading luxury brands and ensuring the very best edit makes it into stores and online, Tinker is about to take on a leading role in the upcoming refurbishment of Harvey Nichols’ womenswear department, which will start this spring.
She attributes her success to hard work and a creative eye, as well as mentoring, advice and support from a pool of talented women throughout the fashion industry.
“It’s very inspiring to me that this industry allows me to feel part of a community,” Tinker tells Drapers. “There is always a sense of encouragement for each other. Whether we’re buyers, designers or business owners, this industry provides a wealth of knowledge.”
Catterall adds: “Rebecca deals with the complexity of her department with an open mind and clear thinking. She can switch from the creative to the commercial with ease. She can also forge long-lasting relationships with industry stakeholders. People just like working with Rebecca.”
