Managing director, Selfridges
Following a management shake-up at the end of 2018, Simon Forster became managing director at the retail arm of Selfridges in February, succeeding Anne Pitcher, who moved to a position overseeing international retail growth.
The luxury department store continues to innovate with its digital offer and store experiences. As part of its ongoing £300m revamp of its Oxford Street flagship, it opened a three-screen in-store cinema in November. This followed renovations of the menswear and accessories spaces in 2018.
These investments are paying off: Selfridges reported a 6% increase in sales to £1.85bn for the year to February 2019.
Sustainability has been a growing focus under Forster and the retailer through its ongoing Buying Better/Inspiring Change plan. Selfridges signed the G7 Fashion Pact, committing to sustainability targets, in July 2019, and from February 2020 will no longer sell exotic animal skins. It also expanded its “Bright New Things” showcase of new sustainable brands such as Anaak, Yatay and Olivia Rose.
