Drapers 30 Under 30 2020: Tara Marti-Yates, senior finance business partner, Ted Baker

Age: 29

Some extremely strong entries from Ted Baker mean there are two people from the Ugly Brown Building in Drapers 30 Under 30 class of 2020.

Just some of the praise Phil Clark, commercial director at Ted Baker, gives to Marti-Yates is “meticulous, professional and a director of the future”.

Her achievements since joining Ted Baker in 2017 include leading the business’s Brexit project from a finance perspective, where she has modelled multiple  scenarios, analysed potential outcomes and engaged with external experts.

Last year, Marti-Yates also introduced a mentoring project, Finance University, which is in in the process of being rolled out and provides support and coaching to junior members of the finance team.

Clark adds: “Tara is an integral member of the finance team, and has an exceptional reputation throughout Ted. She is known for stepping up to the plate and taking on extra responsibilities when required to ensure deadlines are met and tasks completed. Tara thrives on working in a fast-paced environment with ever-changing priorities. Not afraid of hard work, she is forward thinking and has a calm approach.”

Marti admires Julie Deane, founder of the Cambridge Satchel Company: “She founded the business from her kitchen with just £600, driven by the aim of being able to send her children to a better school. She was once quoted as saying, ‘Never expect anyone else to solve your problems.’ Her hard work and innovative thinking are a true inspiration.”
