What he’s learnt: “It’s fine to occasionally take a step down in scale, to better evaluate the operations you can implement down the line.”

Since joining Jack Wills in 2013, Thom Astley has grown into one of the retailer’s most committed and passionate store managers. He started as an assistant manager at Jack Wills Covent Garden and has quickly climbed the ranks to his current position as flagship store manager at Jack Wills Soho.

He started working in retail aged just 17 at AllSaints, where a manager recognised his early talent and encouraged him to apply for a junior manager role. At Jack Wills Soho, he has overseen several new initiatives – among them the introduction of in-store cafe concept Jack Wills x Espresso Hut. This year, his team was awarded the Jack Wills team of the year award by senior management.

“His enthusiasm is infectious and he always encourages his team to deliver excellence and raise the bar,” explains Jack Wills multichannel director Mark Wright. “This year he has championed our [customer service initiative] Wills Way, successfully implemented our first cafe concept and been a great support to his peer store managers.”
