Peter Ruis, Buying director for fashion, John Lewis

Department store chain John Lewis has not been immune to the sales slowdown, but Peter Ruis’s refreshed and more premium fashion offer has ensured clothing sales have remained in positive territory.

The introduction of aspirational brand names such as Reiss, Jigsaw and Fat Face proves Ruis has the ability to charm some of the most brand-protective retailers out there – this is the only department store presence these three retailers have.

He has also lured international brands such as BCBG Max Azria and Day Birger et Mikkelsen to boost John Lewis’s fashion credentials.

Next year will see a new store design across Ruis’s fashion floors in John Lewis’s assault on the fashion market.
