Primark quashes claims that it is to launch a transactional website

Value fashion giant Primark has denied reports that it is to launch a transactional website.

Marketing magazine reported today that the retailer, owned Associated British Foods, had put out a tender for a digital agency to build its first ecommerce site which would launch in 2012.

A Primark spokesman said it had no plans to launch a transactional website and no tender had gone out.

Primark is one of the few big fashion players not to sell goods online as it focused on high street sales. The online retail market was worth £58.8bn in the UK last year according to the IMRG.

  • I think you have got the figure wrong. on line sales have to be more than £58.8m. Should the M be a B for billion?
