Spring 11

The collection There are softer shades at Basler for spring 11 with dusty pinks, blues and greens. Modern silhouettes have raised, ruffled shoulders and softer lines with jersey replacing harder poly-cotton mixes on suiting. While many brands have cut back on embellishment, Basler has ramped it up with sequins and crystals on tops and blouses. The nautical trend is also holding on but has been updated with asymmetric stripes and chevrons and a bright blue to complement the navy.

A lace-effect print channels the newer trend while suede makes an appearance with perforated styles to make jackets extra light and soft. Faux-suede leggings have a distressed effect. There are more luxe fabrics including cashmere and silk blends in draping knitwear.

The trench coat is key in outerwear, although Germanic influences are also seen on sporty parka styles.

Christian Lawaczeck

Managing director, Basler UK

“We’ve taken the collection more upmarket but held prices - we’ve even lowered a few and widened the choice at entry level on core product groups such as outerwear. The customer is

after value now so we have to acknowledge that. Occasionwear is doing very well for us because we’ve been careful to make it versatile to work from day to evening. Accessories is definitely a growth area for Basler.”
