US retailer Brooks Brothers is hoping to more than double its UK stockist base for autumn 13 after hiring its first wholesale manager for the country.
Giles Preston, formerly US West Coast sales manager at premium menswear brand Ermenegildo Zegna, has joined the tailoring business tasked with developing wholesale distribution.
Brooks Brothers’ mainline has six stockists in the UK, including Dublin department store Arnotts, while luxury indie mini-chain Matches is the sole UK stockist of the higher-end Black Fleece by Brooks Brothers range.
Preston told Drapers he was now looking for “a few high-quality partners” for both lines in the UK. About 10 stockists will be targeted for each line, to maintain brand position and avoid saturation, Preston said.
“Some of our competitors are very well distributed but our intention is to find one key partner per geographic region and build a significant business with them,” he said. “We would really like to find one big national partner and then a few premium stores.”
Brooks Brothers’ boyswear collection will launch alongside the menswear offer, and Preston hopes to place it in the same stockists as the menswear range.
Womenswear will not be part of the initial push, although Preston said it would launch in the next couple of years.
