The look Historical military references were mixed with modern sportswear pieces.
Key pieces The military-inspired coat appeared in several guises, from fur-trimmed to a tailored regimental style and cocooning poncho, layered over sharply tailored, single-breasted and double-breasted suits or sporty, cuffed jogging pants and slim-legged leather jeans. Polo-neck knits and boxy gilets added a layered feel and there were further military influences in the trompe l’oeil military regalia-printed jacket and through the use of red, redolent of military sashes.
Colours Military red, black and grey, navy and airforce blue.
Commercial appeal Military never goes away, but Alexander McQueen’s French Revolution treatment refreshed the trend, which will provide an opportunity for detailing on the high street.
