Balenciaga

Spring 11

The look Much of this collection looked like it had been drenched in the rain, as designer Nicolas Ghesquière adopted a patina finish using a new technique of leather embroidered with PVC and brushed silk.

Key pieces Houndstooth jackets in red, blue and white were given a punk rock feel with riveted leather strapping, which was also used as detailing on skirts and across sheer patchworked blouses. There was a boyish charm to the collection, although iridescent sequins brought a feminine edge to proceedings.

Commercial appeal Balenciaga lived up to its reputation for innovative design and fabrication with this collection.

Footwear and accessories Chunky metallic ankle boots reminiscent of Dr Martens came in black, red and blue. The odd buckled cuff adorned wrists.
