Christian Dior

Spring 12

The look Classic 1950s Parisian chic – harking back to Dior’s pre-John Galliano past.

Key pieces Classics such as the famous Dior Bar jacket were updated with a wider neckline, while a boxy round-shouldered overcoat was noted with three quarter-length sleeves. Tulip and A-line skirts stood out alongside 1950s wrap dresses with voluminous skirts. For eveningwear there were bandeau dresses featuring ruffled neck and waist lines.

Colours Black and white, taupe, blood orange and candy pinks.

Commercial appeal This was a somewhat safe collection following the John Galliano scandal and widespread criticism of stand-in designer Bill Gaytten’s first couture show. However, the decision to plunder the archives has paid off, with the 1950s trends coming through across the various fashion weeks.
