Céline

Autumn 12

Having put a full catwalk show on hold to have her third child, Céline creative director Phoebe Philo instead opted for a small presentation that had no less of the Philo stamp – smart, sophisticated and modern. It was all about the coat; having spawned the trend for the tailored collarless styles for autumn 11, Céline looks to have set the standard for next season’s trends as well. Cocoon-shaped coats took oversized to another level and, in far from apologetic shades of marine blue and pink, it was these that spoke loudest in this collection. The colossal coats were on a scale similar to Marc Jacobs’ and, although the extremes may prove too much for certain customers, this collection only helped cement the trend for volume, exaggerated shape and proportions that will come through both subtly and not so subtly next season.
