Derek Lam

Spring 11

The look Reiterating the clean lines and minimalism of autumn 10, Derek Lam moved the trend on to include streamlined silhouettes for spring 11.

Key pieces Crisp, white shirts were seen with high-waisted, wide-leg jeans and bootcut trousers. The trench coat was offered in denim and canvas variations. A-line skirts nodded to the 1950s and lightweight cashmere knits featured an asymmetric swallowtail hem. All-in-ones had plunging necklines and maxis swept the floor.

Colours Classic white and black made up the bulk of the palette, alongside khaki and cream mixed with mustard and denim blue.

Commercial appeal Given the minimalist trends for spring 11, this collection ticked the boxes, offering classic mix-and-match separates with subtleties such as the swallowtail hem to give design difference. Maxi day dresses looked highly commercial.
