Autumn 12

Frida Giannini was in a dark place for autumn with a collection inspired by 19th-century decadents. The scene was set by the backdrop of the mirrored catwalk entrance and the deep plum carpet that matched the autumnal aubergine, olive and burgundy palette. A boxy jacket opened the show and led the way for a collection that didn’t scrimp on fabric, with lots of layers and swathes of material on dresses as well as caped and three-quarter length outerwear. This was an opulent display from Gucci that wasn’t short of decadence with jacquards, delicate silks and special attention paid to velvet. Feathers added to the textural aspect decorating skirts, sheath dresses and cropped jackets, while dramatic sheer gowns with embellished flora details closed the show with plenty of Gucci’s signature glamour.
