Autumn 12

Luxurious, evocative and nomadic, designer Christophe Lemaire’s Hermès collection was a journey in every sense. It travelled a range of contrasting elements as dramatic swathes of wool and leather gave way to a run of light-hearted printed silks, while the initial flurry of masculine tailored suits and coats stepped aside for more fluid, feminine blouses, trousers and dresses towards the end. Colour too switched from one extreme to the other as the blocked-out blacks, greys and browns of the early looks gradually brightened up into oranges, purples and reds, coming to a crescendo in bold ethnic prints. This duality could have come off as disjointed but for the running travelling theme and, while it was all classically luxurious, the shapes, prints and colours, particularly of the latter looks, will translate well across all price points come autumn.
