Lanvin

Cocktail dresses and sassy, caped outerwear burst onto the Lanvin catwalk.

The look Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz must have been in high spirits when he created this collection, as cocktail dresses and sassy, caped outerwear burst onto the catwalk.

Key pieces The collection centred on Elbaz’s signature silhouette - the dress, in addition to black and mink woollen capes. Necklines on dresses varied from high to strapless, and from one shoulder to a plunging V-neck. More often than not dresses and coats had heavily embellished necklines. In the rare moments that print made a showing it was in the form of stylised roses, but the stylistic emphasis here was volume on shoulders and hips through creative use of fabric.

Commercial appeal The cape has already been backed by many a retailer as an autumn 11 trend, and its role in Lanvin’s collection will only further enforce its importance for the season.
