Spring 12

The look A gothic villainess in a cocktail dress.

Key pieces While creative director Alber Elbaz is known for dresses, this season he moved into separates with strong-shouldered sleeveless tops and slinky pencil skirts that finished below the knee. Dresses featured structural shoulders that jutted out dramatically. Other pieces had revealing slits and peek-a-boo slashes, while tuxedo jackets became wrap dresses. Snakes slithered across pieces in heavy embellishments or prints.

Colours A dark palette of black, inky blue and grey with touches of nude that lightened to soft greens, lemon, pink and blue.

Commercial appeal Although the jutting shoulder pads may not be so commercial, pieces like the pencil skirts, the snake-print separates and the finale dresses are sure to filter through.
