Autumn 12

Ten years on from taking up the reins at Lanvin, the bespectacled Alber Elbaz has carved out a reputation for shaping the modern woman. Appropriately, the Belgian designer stuck to his task this autumn, presenting a collection full of form-flattering dresses, tops, jackets and skirts. Nipped-in waists and peplums were the most obvious of the silhouette-shifting details but it was the gently curved and rounded shapes that really hit the mark and will, with a little tweaking, work in the real world too. Elbaz is also famed for injecting fun that other more po-faced designers step away from. It’s a facet of his collections that has won Lanvin many fans, this time popping up in the shape of bright, light-infused saturated colour, decadent gold brocade, glittering finishes and thrilling frills. Fun with a capital ‘F’.
