Betty Jackson

Spring 11

The look The show notes said ‘tribal granny’, much to the amusement of the audience. What that meant was an emphasis on chunky and fine-gauge knits, brushstroke flower prints and bird motifs. Wide-leg and peg-leg trousers were prominent, as were ruffles on sleeves and peplum waists on tops.

Key pieces A coat in taupe with all-over fraying detail that was belted neatly at the waist had great texture. Knitwear was particularly strong.

Commercial appeal There were elements that had wide appeal. The bird motifs were most eye-catching on jumpsuits, while ruffle and feather details played into the feminine tone of spring 11.

Footwear and accessories A sporty element was employed in the form of cleated soles and mesh fabric on platform wedges and strappy sandals.
