LBDs trimmed with gel-filled plastic, but with a nod to granny chic.

The look Christopher Kane knows how to embrace a theme and milk it; hence this collection was almost exclusively LBDs trimmed with gel-filled plastic, but with a nod to granny chic.

Key pieces There was really only one, the black dress, although each piece was differentiated from the other by where and how it featured Kane’s coloured gel-filled plastic trims. Around deep, wobbly necklines or on pockets were both popular locations. Meanwhile, the show opened with crochet skirts, tops and dresses, patterned into squares. Best was a crochet pattern printed onto a leather skirt.

Commercial appeal While his ideas are great, Kane’s autumn 11 offer isn’t likely to have a huge impact on high street trends. Plastic has narrow appeal, while some dress designs were midriff-baring or totally transparent. Few women have the abs to pull that look off.
