Jonathan Saunders

Spring 12

The look The 1950s meets Miami beach.

Key pieces The structured silhouettes of 1950s-inspired prom dresses and skirts, jackets and boyfriend blazers contrasted with the softness of sheer camisoles and pyjama pants. Fabric choices were thus equally varied, ranging from jacquards and silks to cashmere and crêpe de chine.

Colours Clashing sorbet shades of pink, blue, lilac and yellow, used as colour blocking or in soft ombré tones. Swirled or geometric-inspired paisley prints added to the vibrancy of this collection.

Commercial appeal Plenty. Whether as individual pieces or styled as complete looks, buyers won’t need to rummage through to find what will sell. This is a beautiful, accomplished, commercially led collection. And perhaps this is also where it falls (very marginally) down: it lacked a standout show piece.
