London Fashion Week: Burberry Prorsum

Just as we wondered how much more could be done with the trench coat, Christopher Bailey proved us wrong, sending out models clad in translucent latex trenches, knickers clearly visible underneath.

Cannily entitled Trench Kisses, the collection blended Burberry’s ladylike legacy with a potent tinge of sex.

From the cutesy heart print alongside tight rubbery fabrics, to the fetish metal neck details on otherwise demure dresses, this was heritage with a hint of naughty. Animal print and stripes on tailored separates offered something for those who may find visible underwear a little too much.

In short Bailey took a brave step towards injecting more of his own vision into the classic brand. It paid off.
