London Fashion Week: Harold Tillman warns of government cuts

At the opening of London Fashion Week this morning, Harold Tillman, chairman of organiser the British Fashion Council, warned that government spending cuts would herald a “difficult” year for the organisation.

Speaking at a press conference alongside Prime Minister David Cameron’s wife, Samantha Cameron, Tillman said he felt “upbeat and excited about the week ahead” but added that this year would be “difficult.. as we are all suffering alongside many other organisations from cuts the Government has made”.

Samantha Cameron said: “People often say fashion is one of our most important creative industries, but it is one of the most important industries we have got.”

She said that the industry brought £20bn to the economy and added that she wanted to do “everything” she could to support the industry, which employs 100,000 people.
