London Fashion Week: Meadham Kirchhoff

Take almost everything you’ve come to expect from Edward Meadham and Ben Kirchhoff and forget it, almost.

Gone were the jolly dancers, choirs and frolics of past seasons. For autumn 13 it was a strict and monochrome affair, with a sinister but romantic edge. Stiff tailored coats came strapped around the body, panelled with squeaky sex shop vinyl in oppressive black bars. Elsewhere this vinyl came ruffled and laser cut into a kinky lace on jackets, skirts and trousers. Jaunty suits and austere brocade jackets continued the vibe, alongside heavy velvet and matronly cotton dresses trimmed in lace.

In short Strict Victoriana meets moody sex shop vinyl. Looks like even Meadham Kirchhoff got the commercial memo.
