Design duo Inacio Ribeiro and Suzanne Clements have looked to their archives for inspiration this season, with the knitwear pieces ones to watch out for.
What were your key inspirations for autumn 13?
Since last year we have been organising our archive and this, inevitably, has inspired us to revisit some of our core designs and looks. For autumn 13 we took elements from two of our seminal collections (Punck Trousseau and Orlando) as a starting point. That was layered with fresh inspiration taken from our trips across the American northwest last year.
What are the key items?
We are in love with the knitted pieces that have integrated printed panels. It is something we hardly worked with in the past. It created a new hybrid, playing with our dual strength of print and knitwear. We are also obsessed with our mini kilt. Initially a coup de coeur from our ‘Punk Trousseau’ collection, it became the essential piece of the collection.
Key colours and fabrics?
We are working with a great new print base, a silk ottoman that is both solid and supple. Prints for us are like colours and we are mixing them in blocks. We are obsessed with black again. Black combined with red is our current fetish. Metallics have also a great presence in the collection, in brocades and in embellishment.
How has it been creating this collection?
Our collections are tight but packed with diverse elements that contrast or complement each other. We like to keep a space for serendipity too. That plus balancing the commercial aspects pose quite a challenge and it takes a different set of creativity to juggle it. And that is the creative space we thrive right now.
