Korean born designer Eudon Choi has joined the likes of Mary Katrantzou, Giles Deacon and MariosSchwab as part of the Swarovski Fashion Collective this season – look out for sparkles, but in Choi’s unique way.
What were your key inspirations for autumn 13?
My starting point for the collection is Russian Folk and the strong, dignified and proud women portrayed in associated visual references. I watch a lot of vintage cinema and I think a cinematic reference always makes its way into my collection. For AW13 it is the 1965 epic romance Dr Zhivago, directed by David Lean and starting the luminous Julie Christie.
What are the key items?
Structured tailoring with bit of romance. For autumn 13 I wanted to continue exploring the idea of protection that emerged in my firm, tailored outerwear in the AW12 Terra Nova Collection. But I also wanted to inject a sense of romance and nostalgia and explore something more overtly feminine.
Key colours and fabrics?
Azure Blue, Amaranth Pink and Scarlet are key. I am using a few different types of Jacquard that mix fabrics like heavy grey Jacquard on chiffon, it creates a traditional yet contemporary finish and is a continuation of my signature contrasting textures. Bonded leather features heavily and you will also see Swarovski crystal rocks, royal blue knotted stripes and loose weave knit.
How has it been creating this collection?
It is such an honour to be chosen to collaborate with Swarovski as part of the Swarovski Collective this season. As a young designer, to be part of the Swarovski Fashion Collective alongside big name international designers is beyond amazing. Swarovski is one of the most innovative forces within fashion; so as an emerging designer to be recognized by such an influential brand is hugely important to me.
