London Fashion Week preview: Issa

It’s all things Navajo-inspired at Issa this season, says designer Daniella Helayel, with colourful prints and takes on warrior headdresses.

What are your key inspirations for autumn 13?

This season we looked to the Navajo tribes and their rich heritage surrounded with warriors and mountain peaks. The shapes are leaner, with simple details and bespoke textured fabrics with bold accents of colour.

What are the key items?

The traditional, luxurious formation of the warrior tribes’ headdresses have been given a contemporary twist, with feather and Perspex collars fanning out playfully around necklines this season.

And the key colours and fabrics?

Bright and bold Navajo-print jacquard and brushed wool with interwoven metallic thread.

What’s it been like creating this collection?

Developing the collection allowed us to delve into the world of the Navajo Indians and use a lot of techniques and traditional fabrics to create prints inspired by the tribes.
