London Fashion Week preview: James Long

The Northampton-born designer tells us he’s pumped up the volume for autumn 13 - look out for new accessories too.

What are your inspirations for autumn 13?

[French painter Jean] Dubuffet, Jewish costume and [sculptor] Jessica Stockholder. There is a development in volume and in silhouette, proportions are adjusted to suit the inspiration and mood. The addition of key accessories includes satchels and sheepskin hats. Important elements include knit, print, leather as well as intricate inserts.

What are the key items?

Cropped sheepskin coats, voluminous shirts, intricate pleat skirts and satchels.

And the key colours and fabrics?

Tonnes of blue, white and black.

What’s it been like creating this collection?

It’s been great to incorporate some interesting pattern cutting and it’s always good to have that moment when you see it all happening and looking how you envisaged. Showing in the Simon Oldfield Gallery in Mayfair feels very right for this collection too.

  • Tuesday, February 19, 11pm to 1pm Simon Oldfield Gallery, Mayfair
