A record number of US buyers have hit London Fashion Week, which opened this morning, including some key retailers who are attending the event for the very first time.
US regulars such as Barneys and Saks fifth Avenue were joined at the London Fashion Week main venueSomerset House this morning by newcomers from Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and independent boutiques such as Opening Ceremony and H. Lorenzo.
As well as American visitors, London Fashion Week also welcomed guests from France and Italy with international stores including Colette, Le Bon Marche, Biffi and Penelope all represented as the event kicked off. Other countries with buyer representation included Belgium, Germany, Russia, Spain and China.
Buyers and press were welcomed to the event by Harold Tillman, chairman of London Fashion Week organiser the British Fashion Council (BFC) and the prime minister’s wife Samantha Cameron, in her new role as BFC Ambassador.
Susan Haird, acting chief executive of UK Trade and Industry said: “London Fashion Week is an excellent platform for British designers to showcase to the international fashion community the creative, edgy brilliance of our multi-billion pound fashion industry, which is worth £21 billion to the UK economy and supports1.31 million jobs. We look forward to partnering once again with the British Fashion Council to assist new and exciting designers make their mark in key international markets.”
