Mary Katrantzou

Spring 11

The look Inspired by photographers Guy Bourdin and Helmut Newton’s fashion shoots, Mary Katrantzou’s digital prints had a 3D depth in rich tones ranging from midnight blue to rose pink and yolk yellow.

Key pieces Floral and chandelier imagery dominated surreal prints fashioned into structured dresses. Mini crinolines were inspired by lampshades with heavy mesh draped down the back and front.

Commercial appeal The concept of lampshade-inspired skirts does not sound easy to translate but these designs had finesse and originality. Expect a trend for playful prints and shapes to filter down next year.

Footwear and accessories Necklaces were modelled on large wall sconces. Platform raffia wedges had straps across the bridge of the foot or featured laces up the front.
