Louis Vuitton

Autumn 12

Kim Jones’ second collection for Louis Vuitton was an exercise in progression without razzmatazz, and satisfyingly so considering some of the other shows’ more out-there offerings. No one more than Jones embraced the textural fabric interplay autumn 12 has been underpinned by, with leather juxtaposed against wool, waxed cotton against fur. But rather than a homage to heritage, the overall look was a more intriguing mix of references. Exaggerated silhouettes weren’t overblown while a clean mix of tailoring and softer details, belted db coats and kimono-style jackets, for example, created interest without venturing into the uncommercial. And while the season’s key knit, the rollneck, was ticked off, Jones suggested perhaps it was time for the fashion world to ditch crews and round necks in favour of the V. Looks like Vuitton is in good hands…
