For autumn 12 Marc Jacobs chose to work texture to the max, with a no-holds-barred collision of textiles. Models came across as eccentric bag ladies, brazen and fearlessly outlandish, with styling that ensured volume and layering were key. Paisley prints, first seen for spring 12, were picked up again by Jacobs for autumn, and added to houndstooth, a move sure to cement the prints’ commercial use. The ‘dress up’ approach was echoed in the playful appliqué on coat lapels, the mad hats and high-shine dresses with an iridescent sheen. Aubergine, mustard and forest green worked alongside a reintroduction of black, as colour still holds its own for next season. The 1990s resurgence continued with deep V, off-the-shoulder dresses reminiscent of early 1990s cocktail dresses. We take our hat off to the designer’s trademark sense of fun.
