The autumn 10 catwalk season got under way in Milan this weekend with the men’s collections from heavy hitters including Burberry Prorsum and Dolce & Gabbana exhibiting a relaxed and casual handwriting.
Heavy tailoring took a back seat at Christopher Bailey’s menswear collection for Burberry Prorsum, which instead looked to outerwear for its key pieces. Re-worked trenches, peacoats and flying jackets were all teamed with funnel-necked and fine gauge knits or shirts in casual fabrications.
At Dolce and Gabbana, rugged agrarian workwear formed the central theme with heavy knits and waxed leathers creating an outdoors-y feel. Both collections used an earthy palette.
Elsewhere, Emporio Armani struck a different casual note with a parade of snowboarding-inspired techy outerwear, before sending signature relaxed tailoring down the runway.
This season, fashion fans have been able to get a front row seat at their favourite fashion house’s catwalk show as designers streamed their shows live online.
