Milan Fashion Week: Dolce & Gabbana

Kitsch? Check. Siciliana? Check. Elaborate prints? Check. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were in familiar and familial territory with their spring 13 collection.

Gone were the spicy chillies of last spring, only to be replaced by frescoes from Dolce’s Sicilian homeland. There was more than a little holiday souvenir tea towel about some of the prints, but in a good way, as the reference culminated in a literal sack dress. It was fun but stopped short of tacky with the introduction of jolly, deckchair-stripe dresses and the final selection of swimsuits and vintage bikinis.

In short The collection was fun and flirty and we’re sure to see similar prints on the high street, but maybe it’s time to kick the kitsch into touch.
