Despite the luxe textiles and pelts, there was a rugged, outdoorsy element to Silvia Venturini Fendi’s collection.
OK, there were no bearded trawlermen or Arctic explorers, but the hoods, furry boots and capes at least referenced harsh winters, and the translucent, almost icy sole to the shoes was a nice touch. But this was no flurry of fanciful clothes: the bulky knitwear was excellent, the boxy coats broke up the silhouette in an interesting yet wearable way and the colours were grown-up. The appearance of tartan further enhanced Fendi’s trend credentials.
In short A collection that picked up on the emerging explorer vibe but did so in a sophisticated, premium way, striking the right tone in every sense.
