Perhaps the large reflective discs adorning the final few looks of the Miu Miu autumn 12 collection were symbolic of Miuccia Prada holding up a mirror to the label that carries her surname. After all, there was certainly more than a hint of Prada about its little sister line this season. The bad taste beauty seen on the purple carpet in Milan translated into trouser suits in Paris, Mrs Prada’s proposition as the ‘new’ dress coming in an array of patterned and block coloured options. From the fairly sober jewel-toned plain tailoring teamed with retro printed blouses of the opening to the far-from-shrinking-violet wallpaper-patterned two-piece later on, the wide-lapelled suits were a bold statement for a brand so built on dresses. That must be where the Paco Rabanne-esque finale came from – Prada wouldn’t want to bite the hand that feeds her, would she?
