New York Fashion Week: Best of the rest

A Prabal Gurung dress graced the back of a certain Duchess last week, which is sure to send this rising star soaring.

For spring he introduced a new casual feel, albeit as a dressed-down sporty take on black tie garb. The 1960s appeared again at Michael Kors, as stripes and colour blocks splattered across boxy shift dress and mini skirts – a safely commercial take on the season’s growing trend. Elsewhere, the king of preppy Tommy Hilfiger scored a home run with a nautical-tinged collection. What was nice was his inventive take on his best works, like a leather Breton, sexy luxed-up V-neck sweater dresses and louche striped tailoring. Sports came though at Lacoste too, where simple tenniswear shapes such as polo shirt dresses and anoraks were splashed with fun prints of tennis balls, rackets and umpire chairs.
