Another day on the New York Fashion Week catwalk saw Marc Jacobs come out in spots, Donna Karan use subtle colours and ladylike elegance from Carolina Herrera.
Marc Jacobs’ autumn 11 collection went a little bit dotty with an overwhelming display of spots. From dotted tights to spotty suits the shapes were prevalent across the whole collection. The dots came in many different sizes, and finishes including shiny, matte, flat, and 3D and were displayed in an assortment of different shades, prints and fabrics. White shirts were often the basis of many outfits with sweatshirts and jackets partnered with slim fit pencil skirts.
From creams and blushes to shades of taupe and pearl grey Donna Karan’[s autumn 11 collection used a subtle colour palette. Structured silhouettes were made graceful and feminine with drapes and folds with pieces including a suit jacket which had wide puffed shoulders with sleeves that tapered down and a dress with a draped cowl neck. Skinny belts featured heavily, with thin taupe strips layered over coats to nip in waists. Fur and shearling were both prominent, with shearling jackets, coats and fur cuffed gloves.
Carolina Herrera’s collection was simple with strong lines but did not hold back on ladylike elegance. Garments included wide-leg trousers and fur trimmed jackets with the show opening with a dark grey coat with an amethyst velvet belt. Floor length evening dresses were adorned with beading, embroidery and printing coming in shades including turquoise, rust and black.
