New York Fashion Week: Proenza Schouler

There’s an instant excitement when a collection emerges so far removed from what designers have shown before, and Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez have certainly left the pulsating energy of their spring 13 love affair with print behind.

This was more grown-up, with an emphasis on muted colours and strong shapes. Texture was king, with everything from chains to feathers to one eminently touchable coated jumper, cleverly crafted to appear half leather, half knit. Without the brashness of colour, the detail of the fabric doesn’t overwhelm, leaving some genuinely classic, wearable designs.

In short Directional, ladylike, edgy. This had something for everyone, wrapped in a bow of innovative fabrics. Top marks.
