New York Fashion Week: Rodarte

Medieval and fantasy role-playing games may not be at the top of every designer’s list of inspirations but Kate and Laura Mulleavy had clearly been swashbuckling their way around World of Warcraft during the conception of their Rodarte collection.

While some of the motifs were deliberately obvious such as plates of armour, ornate embroidery and metallic bodices, the pair advanced the Dungeons & Dragons vibe into the modern era via the use of fresh turquoise and orange highlights and high-shine leather and silks. Fringed leather jackets added an edge to proceedings.

In short For all the fantasy, these pieces from the Mulleavy’s virtual world will, if a little toned down, work in the real world.
